Film Review: Descendants

It has been a while since my last post. Couple of  days ago I saw new movie named Descendants directed by Alexander Payne in 2011. Starring: George Clooney as Matt King, Shailene Woodley as Alexandra  King, Matthew Lillard as Brian Speer, Patricia Hastie as Elizabeth King and Amara Miller as Scottie King. Movie is family drama set in capital of Hawaii, Honolulu. George Clooney is main character and also narrator throughout the movie. He plays  busy lawyer and the sole trustee of a family trust that controls 25,000 acres of pristine land on the island Kauai. It’s a story about an average family. He travels a lot due to business, has two daughters, one is just a girl , second is teenager and a wife who is extreme sports addict. Since, His wife experience difficult accident and falls into coma, He will start to spend more time with daughters who He actually doesn’t know very well. This family trouble will change His life and the way of thinking forever. Afer a couple of days since the accident Matt will find out that His wife was in love and had affair with some other guy, who is real estate agent. This story is based on a novel of the same name written by Kaui Hart Hammings. The story is quite simple and realistic.

I always wanted to live in Hawaii, so I liked  that movie is set there. It shows beautiful nature of the island, ocean, food and lifestyle of the citizens. Also, music is very nice. Somehow as many of other people I always tought that people who live in such a beautiful places with nice weather don’t have any problems or depressions like We do in Europe. But, as Clooney (Matt) noted during the Film, living in Hawaii doesn’t make you immune to life and all troubles that brings. Unfortunately, that is the true. You can live wherever, but still can’t run away from Yourself.

This movie won an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay. Also, two Golden Globe awards for Best Picture and Best actor which was George. He was in nominations for Academy Award for Best actor category, but as much I don’t appreciate this Award, I personally think He didn’t deserve it for this role which was averge like all roles He did before in career. Nothing spacial. I notice that American actors think They deserve  Academy Award as soon They play in some serious movie as this one. That is sad, and more sad is the fact that Award couple of years ago went to shitty actors as Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie and many others. That’s why I hate the entire concept of Hollywood, it is completely fake and fabricated, not to say overrated.
